Per hour, on as needed basis.

AS A FREELANCE ONSITE INTERPRETER, YOU WILL:

Provide high quality, professional remote interpreting services to support the language
access and outreach need of Limited English Proficient (LEP) or Non-English Proficient
(NEP) people in a variety of settings such as Events, Conferences, Trainings, Meetings,
In-home student visits and consultations, IEP or student support team meetings and
Counseling appointments.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR FREELANCE ONSITE INTERPRETER:

  • Interpret (in both consecutive and simultaneous mode) for onsite events
  • Maintain your appointment schedule
  • Provide assistance to other interpreters, clients and consumers on interpretation related issues
  • Proactive communication with our clients and vendors in a friendly, professional manner

PERSON IN THIS POSITION MUST: 

  • Collaborate in a professional manner with other team members
  • Follow Project Manager’s instructions and perform tasks accordingly
  • Seek Project Manager’s support for difficult interpreting situations, and follow instructions
  • Adhere to ACSI values, policies and procedures
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Interpreter Certification from an Accredited University or institution OR
  • Federal, State, or the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators
    (NAJIT).
  • Certification, OR Judiciary Interpreters and Translators Certification Examination (JITCE) Certification.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of in-person interpretation experience, with a minimum of 3 years of in-country experience.
  • Have Native or near-native level of fluency in the respective source language and a high English fluency level.
  • Have knowledge of the vocabulary, vernacular, and general culture of the LEP/NEP
    community.
  • Have previous experience providing interpretation services for other public entities or K-12 school districts.
  • Have teamwork and social skills that will enhance interpretation projects requiring multiple interpreters.
  • Comply with the Interpreter’s Oath and state professional ethics established by the states equal to or equivalent to Virginia’s professional and ethical state-wide standards for interpreters.
  • Possess or be able to obtain and retain a clear criminal background check.
